An extra-special vintage tea party was held in Cutler’s Kitchen on April 21st to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday. The right Royal festivities included six very special local guests who all reach 90 themselves this year!
They were joined by over 40 other senior citizens as well as UDC Chairman Cllr Stephanie Harris, who presented the 90 year olds with special commemorative medals, and Cllr Eric Hicks, the Day Centre Portfolio lead.
The room was patriotically decorated with red, white and blue bunting with red, white and blue flower arrangements completing the British theme. The tables were laid with an assortment of lacy and embroidered cloths and vintage china befitting the occasion!
June Murdoch, who will be 90 in June, cut a special birthday cake revealing red, white and blue sponge inside the classic white icing.
The theme also extended to the food: tasty sandwiches, scones with cream, and an assortment of delicious cup-cakes which all disappeared very quickly!
After the national Anthem and a loyal toast to the Queen, the assembled company all sang Happy Birthday to her Majesty and then (with much flag waving) sang two choruses of Land of Hope and Glory.
Judging by the level of chat and laughter everyone had a fantastic time - the background music from the 20’s, 30’s 40’s and 50’s was often nearly drowned out by the cheerful noise!
Everyone put their heart and soul onto wishing the Queen the very best for her special day and all went home with happy memories of a once-in-a-lifetime celebration!
