Audrey Carmichael, who has run the Thaxted Centre for the Disabled in Dunmow Road for more than 20 years - and who was awarded the MBE for her work - is retiring from her voluntary role at the end of the year.

Despite giving a year’s notice of her intention to retire, no-one has been found to take over from her, leaving the centre in a precarious position. Mrs Carmichael said: ‘We desperately need someone to manage the centre going forward, and I would hope to have a period of time to work alongside him or her to ensure a seamless transfer.’

Role Requirements

• Supported by a pool of volunteers (currently 10 ) to organise and supervise twice weekly handicraft activity sessions at the Centre, and to organise outings and social events for the members.
• Organise the letting of the Centre to other voluntary groups (a vital source of income).
• To try to ensure the facilities of the Centre are fully utilised by recruiting new members and volunteers.
• With the help of the experienced assistant run the day to day administration of the Centre.

• Administration - experienced assistant
• Treasurer - maintains monthly financial reporting system

Hours
Monday and Thursday each week - 9.00 to 2.30. There will be the occasional out of these hours telephone calls.
