March 2017 Demonstration

Kath Doggett was our Demonstrator in March with her title ‘This Time Of Year’.

She fittingly started the demonstration talking about Spring, leaving Winter behind, and incorporated in her first design some long wintery lichen covered branches but then added a splash of yellow with some large Anatasia Chrysanthemum blooms and a wonderful bunch of daffodils from her garden along with some beautiful hellebores, Skimmia and lime green Cornus.

She also cleverly tucked in some shooting daffodil bulbs which added further Spring interest to the arrangement!

Kath’s next design was quite different, not only being pink, but, based on a wreath ring, was a round display with pretty deep pink roses and blossom giving it height.

With fantastic foliage from her garden and some large branches of catkins, Kath showed us an arrangement depicting a nest, creatively using a metal garden obelisk upside down for the base with the prongs supporting the nest! The flowers in this design included amazing lime green Anthuriums and a Cymbidium orchid.

For her fifth and final arrangement Kath used a large urn for her container. She had picked some wonderful long and lush pieces of soft ruscus from her mother’s garden, normally a foliage only available commercially! This and other large pieces of foliage formed the foundation for the design and the final flower that Kath used was an orchid with over 20 blooms on the single stem!

To Sue’s delight, Val Ward, who won this magnificient design in the raffle at the end of the meeting, very generously donated it to the United Reformed Church so all the congregation could enjoy and admire the display!
