Our “Recycle, wind and bind” demonstration and mini workshop that marked the start of our 2017 activities was a resounding success and fun was had by all the members and visitors!
Jane demonstrated how to make a “metal look” container using a black sack and a piece of ribbon. She then showed, with just 3 flowers and some foliage, how a very effective design could be created in this container.
Amanda demonstrated how to transform a recycled passata, chutney or jam jar into a rustic looking vase by winding around twine. Then she demonstrated how to bind with wire and make a bunch of bear grass into a sprial cone shaped frame to contain a bunch of daffodils. This design was then displayed in the twine covered vase.
Everyone who attended the February meeting then either made one of Jane's designs or covered a jar and made a bear grass structure and each took home their floral design.
There was also a raffle where 2 prizes were floral designs Amanda had made illustrating other ways of using the method of binding.
There were 2 very happy members, one who won the handtied bouquet with a silver birch bound collar and the other a willow heart design. The willow heart was in a water carafe and so once the flowers were over the carafe could either be used again as a vase or a water jug!
