It was a bitterly cold day but the little bit of sunshine and lack of heavy rain meant the folks of Thaxted and the surrounding areas turned out in force for our annual Mothers’ Day Charity Flower Stall!
There had been lots of publicity beforehand, with every child at Thaxted School being given a flyer, so there was no excuse to not buy some flowers (thanks to VRVE for their support!).
The Mothers’ Day Stall takes a lot of preparation, starting with a visit to the wholesalers to buy flowers and then making sure they all have a long drink (known as “conditioning”) for at least 24 hours.
Then comes the hard work with five of us for a whole day, arranging flowers, storing them in the cool until they can moved to the tables under the Guildhall. Then it’s fingers tightly crossed hoping there will be no wind or rain on the day!
We are, as always, very grateful for all the local support that makes all the effort worthwhile year after year.
Every single one of our arrangements were sold and, although we do not have an official final count just yet, it looks as if we will have about £500 to donate to local charities.
The stall holders, it is rumoured, are still trying to thaw out after five hours in the bitter cold!
