Paxton Utd Res 0 : 5 Thaxted Rangers
This result may have sent everyone scurrying for the records books to see when Thaxted last won away by October 10's margin.
A couple of seasons back there was a 6-2 win at Steeple Bumpstead, but by a 5 goal margin you have to go back to 2011 when Thaxted won at Wilbraham 6-1.
It took 25 minutes for Thaxted to break the deadlock, George Withers initially came close when his effort was cleared off the line, Andy Macdowell was on hand to volley home the rebound.
The second came when Chris Grout broke up the play and released Charlie Daniels to run clear from just within his own half and round the keeper to make it 2-0 at the break.
The all important third goal came when Myles Holmes put over a good cross and there was Charlie again to guide the ball home. It was now just a case of how many Thaxted would get and it could have been plenty. Tom Clark, George Withers and Charlie Daniels all had one one ones with the keeper in the same attack but failed to convert!
Tom Clark then fired in an excellent cross which the Paxton could not get out of the way of and Tom then got on the score shot with an impressive strike. The icing on the cake was nearly applied when John Selby's header in the closing stages went narrowly wide.
A mixed performance from Thaxted, at times sloppy and perhaps trying to force the game too much, but also at times playing some scintillating stuff.
This result put Thaxted top of the table, albeit teams around them have games in hand.
