City Life 1 : 0 Thaxted Rangers
With nine regular first team players unavailable, Thaxted made the trip to Cambridge at the weekend with a barely recognisable side to recent weeks.
However, with City Life not having played for a month, it was the visitors who took early control of the game.
Thaxted moved the ball around well and looked confident, but were unable to capitalise.
The best chances fell to Calum Payne, who was foiled by the keeper having appeared to have gone round him and Lewis Hornsby whose goal bound shot was blocked from close range.
The home side were playing on the counter and had given Thaxted an earlier warning which wasn’t headed as they went in front after
20 minutes against the run of play, when David Halse outstripped the Thaxted defence and put the ball over Junior in goal.
The second half saw a similar pattern of play to the first, Thaxted dominating possession and territorial advantage.
However, the City Life defence sat deep and Thaxted didn’t have the quality on the day to open them up and created little in terms of clear goal scoring chances.
There was however, some positives to draw from the day, the senior debuts of Jack Ormsby and George Withers, who both acquitted themselves excellently on their call up from the Youth side.
