Eynesbury Rovers 2 : 2 Thaxted Rangers
Thaxted had to come from behind twice on Saturday, October 24th, to secure a point against a young good footballing Eynesbury side.
It certainly was a slack start from Thaxted, a change in tactics wasn't working well and Eynesbury deservedly went in front when Thaxted failed to clear a cross, the ball was swept home unchallenged. A few changes were made during the half as slowly Thaxted started to get back into it. Right on half time, Shane Vince rose unchallenged to head home from a corner to equalise.
Driving wind and rain against Thaxted made for difficult conditions in the second half, but the pendulum had swung in Thaxted's favour and Charlie Daniels was now beginning to have more of an influence on the game and Andy Macdowell was beginning to help us get control of the middle of the park.
Now Thaxted looked the more likely, cue referee, Jamie Hansen made a great tackle in the penalty area, not according to the referee, penalty and now 2-1 to Eynesbury.
Despite Thaxted being far from their best, there appears to be a new inbuilt resolve and belief that we can get back into games. That was to be the case, good foraging from George Withers resulted in a corner, which found its way to Charlie Daniels who swept the ball home.
Thaxted pushed for the winner and more controversy, Charlie Daniels went through and was upended in the box, no penalty awarded. In the last moments Phil was put through but couldn't convert a 1 on 1 with the keeper. There was also still time for Dan Latham to pull off a good save from a free kick.
So following possibly our best performance last week where we lost in the cup. This week possibly our least most effective performance of the season, but we managed to get a point.
