Fowlmere Reserves 1 : 0 Thaxted Rangers
As the scoreline suggests this was a very tight game, as is always the case when these two sides meet.
Earlier in the season Thaxted edged a 9 goal thriller in the very last minute of the match. This game however was to be decided by a very controversial decision by the referee.
The crucial moment of the match came half way through the first period when Shane Vince went to block the Fowlmere striker on the edge of the area.
The shot hit Shane on the hand from point blank range and there was not a lot he could do about it.
A quite similar incident to that which happened in the Eynesbury v Thaxted game just a month or so ago - same result as then, penalty conceded and goal to the opposition.
Despite Thaxted’s appeals the referee was not about to change his mind, so 1-0 at the break.
Thaxted had two good chances in the second half to pull level, first off Jamie Hansen was unable to convert from close range following a cross from the right and right at the death Chris Grout fed off of Andy Macdowell and broke through the Fowlmere defence only to shoot narrowly wide.
A game where there were very few chances and both defences were very much on top.
It’s just a pity the game had to be decided by a very controversial decision!
