FC Comets 3 : 1 Thaxted Rangers Yellows
If Anfield’s crowd is its 12th team member, FC Comets can probably claim the same for their very uneven pitch! This was muddy, claggy and energy-sapping to the extent that a smooth pass along the ground was almost impossible.
Players used to turning on a sixpence found themselves wading through metaphorical treacle and it was clear from the outset that the conditions would not suit the Yellows’ fluid style of play.
Nevertheless, it was a well-balanced game on the whole, with four excellent goals, Ed’s long-distance pile-driver for 1-1 after 26 minutes being the outstanding one of the bunch. There were, as ever, a couple of near-misses for the Yellows and you’d like to think that the final score could easily be reversed in the home fixture later this season.
Despite this loss, the Yellows still sit proudly atop the league table, with second-place Standon Hares only drawing in their meeting with the Stortford Swifts.
