A Concert Of Remembrance
Amici Cantate British Legion Fundraiser

Bishop’s Stortford based choir, Amici Cantate, is delighted to be performing again in the beautiful setting of All Saints’ Church, Hockerill, for ‘A Concert Of Remembrance’ in support of The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

The moving programme will include a full performance of ‘The Armed Man’ by Karl Jenkins. Amici Cantate will be joined for this concert by fabulous professional soloist, Olivia Barry, young singers from the local area including Summercroft Primary School and Dunmow St. Mary's Primary School as well as a dazzling line-up of amazing professional musicians in the form of the Amici Cantate Chamber Orchestra!

This is fifth time Amici has performed with local young singers for charity, over the last five years, and the choir has raised over £10,000 in that time for the various worthy causes it supports.

‘The Armed man’, Karl Jenkin’s ‘Mass for Peace’, was given its premiere in the autumn of 2000, and has become one of the most popular and moving pieces of choral music in the contemporary musical canon.

Full of stirring and melodic music, including the well-known Agnus Dei and Sanctus, it is probably the haunting Benedictus that has captivated audiences most since its first hearing.

The ‘Mass’ combines elements of a variety of Abrahamic prayer, including elements of Christian and Muslim worship together with a strong message about the tragedies of war and the importance of peace.

The first half of the concert features a variety of choral music commemorating the sacrifices made by many brave people in times of conflict, and the impact to their families and communities.

It will include ‘For The Fallen’, a setting by Douglas Guest of Laurence Binyon’s poem recently heard being sung at the Menin Gate as part of this year’s international memorials of the end of the 1st World War, a beautiful arrangement by Ian Assersohn of ‘In Flanders Field’, Ola Gjeilo’s ‘Ubi Caritas’ and a medley of 1st World War songs.

The concert will be directed by John Tripp and accompanied by Michael Smith (Organ) and Graham Instrall (Percussion).

The choir is delighted to be performing in support of The Royal British Legion. This is sure to be a very special evening indeed so do come along and help raise the roof of All Saints' Church and raise as much as possible for The Poppy Appeal!
