Ploughman’s Bunch
Community Gathers For Plough Sunday

Local farmers are set to benefit from some extra luck this growing season, all thanks to a special Plough Sunday service taking place in Thaxted Parish Church on January 13th.

Marking the start of the agricultural year, this special service supports all those who work on the land and will be attended by The Very Revd Nicholas Henshall, The Thaxted Morris Men and members of the local farming community.

The service, which starts at 11am, will be followed by a Ploughman’s Lunch.

Rector of Thaxted, Revd Philip Tarris, is looking forward to the event "We want to support the all those associated with the land and farming. We look forward to our Plough Sunday service, which centres on the cultivation of the land and the celebration of our rural community."

The tradition of Plough Sunday started when the communal village plough was stored over winter in the local Church and its cleaning, repair and bringing out of the Church, was celebrated by the whole village.
