The Great Get Together
17 June, Saffron Walden Common

Get together for a great get together at The Great Get Together on Saffron Walden Common on Saturday, 17 June! Inspired by the memory of former MP Jo Cox, the day is designed to bring people together across the country through a range of street parties, picnics, BBQs and concerts.

Jo Cox, who was the Labour MP for Batley and Spen from May 2015 until her murder in June 2016, held a firm belief that ‘we have more in common than that which divides us’. The Great Get Together is an opportunity to honour that belief and celebrate the strength of our local communities.

The Great Get Together has cross-party backing and is supported by some of the most prominent Remain and Brexit campaigners, but it is completely outside of politics and the Brexit debate.

Over 105,550 events have already been planned across the country, and in Saffron Walden you are invited to bring your family, friends and a picnic from noon - 2pm to show we all have ‘more in common on the Common!’

You will enjoy music by local singer songwriter Joanna Eden, singing with the Joanna Eden Choir and entertainment by local theatre group HyperFusion Academy.

There will also be a wide range of stalls run by local, non-party political, clubs and societies and the opportunity to contribute a leaf to Saffron Walden’s ‘community tree’.

Award-winning local author Clare Mulley says: ‘as a biographer I spend hours investigating what makes people tick. What is fascinating is not just what distinguishes one-legged war heroes or female special agents, but how much they have in common with the rest of us.’

’Jo Cox was right, we should celebrate what we have in common, on the Common, on June 17th!’
