Rescu Charity

Rescu is a local charity set up in 1994 by a group of parents of special needs children determined to make a difference in a rural area with no services available to support them. A number of respite related services such as Shared Care, Youth Clubs, Befriending Services and Playschemes were set up but the main goal was always to provide a residential centre where clients could come for short breaks, enabling them to expand their experiences and gain some independence whilst giving their carers some much needed rest.

We bought an 0.8 acre piece of land in Thaxted in 2009 and in May of that year we were given planning permission to build a 7 bed unit. This centre will incorporate the most up to date facilities such as specialist hoists. Each bedroom will be beautifully designed and will

provide a wonderful environment for each of our guests. There will also be a sensory room, sensory garden and a room for independent living training and we hope to offer complementary therapies.

We have already raised about £400,000 out of which we have paid for the land and the planning application. We have been fortunate enough to receive some generous grants and have recently been one of the charity’s nominated by Mulluck Wells for their 25-year anniversary appeal. We also have a fantastic events committee who have raised a staggering amount of money in the 4 years they have been together. Our events are always great fun and value for money so please visit our website for more information.
