Set up in 1939, Essex Boys and Girls Clubs is a registered UK charity working throughout Essex & East London.

Set up as part of the Boys' Club Movement and thus deeply involved with the development of Youth Football and Youth Boxing, we remain true to our roots by supporting independent youth groups. These include mixed youth groups, Boy's Own clubs and grassroots sports clubs.

Our clubs are diverse, ranging from the small rural youth clubs with under 20 members who meet once a fortnight, to large multi-facility clubs with over 500 members and open almost 24 hours a day.

Clubs in Uttlesford include Saffron Walden, Gt Chesterfield, Newport, Thaxted, Ashdon & Finchingfield (just over the border!). If you're aged 11-19, there are tons of activities to help you develop your character, enhance your skills and, most importantly, have a great time!

Each of our affiliated clubs is independent and run by volunteers, who are needed for a range of roles including supervision, youth work, sports, driving, cleaning, catering, fundraising, book-keeping and general help, as well as sharing their own special skills or

interests with young people.

Volunteering is a really useful way to try something out and get some experience, whatever age you are. You never know who you might meet and where it might lead! Click here to ask us about volunteering.

We also run lots of fun events for young people, through the individual clubs and in our Adventure Centres, and are always in need of helpful people who want to support our work. You don't have to have experience of working with young people or the specific activity - you just need enthusiasm and a belief in the principles of the charity.

You can take your pick of our enormous range of events to commit for a few hours, a whole day, or even join a few days or weeks. We're working on offering plenty of perks and though you're not paid we're very, very nice to you!
