Based in Bolford Street Hall, in the heart of Thaxted, The Windmill Preschool was established over 15 years ago and is a registered charity (no. 1106496). It welcomes children from age 2½ to 5.

At the Windmill Preschool our aim is to provide the children in our care with a safe, secure, warm and happy environment in which they can enjoy a wide variety of play experiences.

The children will be valued, listened to, spoken to and treated in a positive way to build their self-esteem. They will be encouraged to be independent, to care for one another, to understand the feelings of others, to share, take turns and say “please and thank you”.

We are committed to making preschool fun, where “play” is the key word in helping the children to develop their skills and knowledge at

their own pace without feeling under any pressure. The children will have opportunities to play individually, and in small and large group activities, indoors and outside.

The preschool has use of a large playing field nearby, and children who attend on Fridays also regularly visit the wonderful “secret garden” at Clarance House.

Session times are 9am–12 noon Monday to Thursday, and 9am–2pm on Fridays, for children who will start school the following September.
