Christmas Magic
At Saffron Screen

This Christmas, Saffron Screen have hung up their stocking and packed it full of films and festive fun for all the family.

With special visits from Father Christmas, Christmas comedy favourite Elf will kick off the holiday programme along with another family Christmas classic, It’s a Wonderful Life, back by popular demand.

Superb snowboarding documentary The Crash Reel is perfect for those looking for an alternative seasonal flick. It mixes eye-popping footage of US champion snowboarder Kevin Pearce practising his incredible stunts with the intimate story of his 2009 accident. This is a must-see for anyone with an interest in the slopes.

And this year, Saffron Screen’s annual silent movie selection is a Buster Keaton double bill with piano accompaniment from the fantastic Gail Ford. Bring all the family to enjoy Buster’s hilarious deadpan stunts with Gail’s witty mix of classic and modern tunes – see how many you can recognise!

Somali pirate drama, Captain Phillips, starring Tom Hanks and Philomena, starring Judi Dench and Steve Coogan are the blockbusters headlining from Christmas to New Year and One Chance, a heartwarming biopic of Paul Potts, starring James Cordon and Julie Walters is bound to delight.

For audiences in need of a post new year pick me up, Saffron Screen are showing the enormously entertaining Thor: The Dark World and the joyous toe-tapping Sunshine on Leith for which Jane Horrocks visited the cinema last month.

Finally, to cheer up the dark and dismal days of January, there will be an epic weekend of 3D films exploding onto the screen in the first weekend of January including, the "gripping and utterly immersive space thriller" Gravity, Disney's snowy fairytale Frozen and Hitchcock's fascinating Dial M for Murder.

With a spirited mix of brand new features and old classics, Saffron Walden’s local cinema really does have something for everyone this Christmas!

If you would like to give the gift of cinema to someone this Christmas, please visit the Saffron Screen website for details of gift vouchers and Friends of Saffron Screen gift membership.
