Saffron Walden Air Cadets Recruitment

The 1824 (Saffron Walden) Squadron Air Training Corps, part of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, are recruiting a new intake at a special event at their HQ in Herberts Farm Playing Fields, Debden Road on Monday, 26 March.

The ATC aims to promote and encourage a practical interest in aviation and the RAF among young people. Qualities of leadership and good citizenship are developed and, most importantly, a spirit of healthy adventure is fostered.

Cadets get opportunities to fly in RAF aircraft and the pinnacle is to be selected for a Flying Scholarship, where it is possible to fly solo at 17 years. All cadets do Heartstart and First Aid and can work towards a BTEC in Teamwork and Personal Development in the Community. They can also study towards a BTEC in Aviation Studies.

Cadets get the opportunity to spend a week on an RAF base in the UK and can visit RAF bases abroad, in Cyprus and Gibraltar. They can also be selected for the International Air Cadet Exchange. And that’s not all…

The Air Cadets are the largest operator of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, with the Saffron Walden Corps taking part in flying, target shooting, hill walking, mountain biking (at the Olympic Course in Hadleigh), canoeing and a wide range of other sports.

Phew, all sounds pretty exhausting to us! But great fun all the same and, if it sounds like your kind of thing and you're aged between 13 (or 12 in Year 8) and 17, get on down to the recruitment event to find out all about it! Adults over 20 can also join as instructors.

The new intake takes place on Monday 26th March 2018 from 7.30pm at the Squadron HQ at Herberts Playing Fields, Debden Rd, Saffron Walden.
