The sad death of Major (Retd) David Helme, aged 93 years, occurred on Sunday 31st August 2014 at home in Thaxted. David saw extensive service in some of the toughest theatres of the Second World War before returning to civilian life, living at Broxted and then Thaxted in his later years.

Following the inspection and review of council-owned land back in February and March of this year, keen gardeners are reaping the benefits of efforts to improve and increase the number of allotments owned by Uttlesford District Council – and the results are blooming marvellous!
